MechNeuber

Apply Neuber Correction in Pro/MECHANICA

Stresses resulting from a linear elastic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) can easily reach values well above the yield limit and even ultimate tensile strength of the material. If these high stress levels are localized in a small area and the load case considered only occurs a small number of times, it is often assumed that due to local yielding the surrounding – lower stressed – material takes over part of the load so that no crack will initiate. Although in many cases true, it is very hard to give this assumption a scientific basis. However, the Neuber correction method makes it possible to really, accurately, estimate the local plasticity effects. The elastic-plastic strain resulting from this Neuber correction can then be checked against material allowable values.

HEC has developed a postprocessor for use with Pro/MECHANICA or for stand-alone use, which enables the designer to calculate the local plasticity effects based on the stresses calculated by Pro/MECHANICA. The corrected stresses and strains can be made visible in the graphical Pro/MECHANICA result window interface.
